About This Course
This course provides practical training on effective leadership in health, safety and environmental management. The course builds on the foundations of operations and project management to prepare participants in assessing oil and gas projects and manage risks as part of an energy business. By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
- Understand the health, safety and environmental protection requirements placed on organisations and individuals.
- Identify & manage risks to the business.
- Understand how good HSE supports a positive bottom line.
- Assess how well HSE is being managed within their organisation.
- Apply risk-based thinking to suggest improvements in business processes with respect to health, safety and environmental sustainability.
Attendees will learn the about applying Plan, Do, Check, Act methodology to HSE. The course is interactive with a range of exercises and various media, including short videos and several case studies. The course provides an overview and insights into international standards which influence HSE:
- ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
- ISO 45001 Health and Safety management
- ISO 14001 Environmental management
Note that ISO 45001 has replaced OHSAS 18001 as the international standard for Occupational Health and Safety management.

Meet the team
Course Leader
Greg Coleman is an oil and gas executive and former BP vice-president with over 35 years of oil and gas experience in the North Sea, Europe, North Africa, Middle East and North America throughout the value chain.
Lecturer
Christopher Robert Lloyd has over 15 years of experience in the oil & gas industry, working in Europe and Africa. He had worked with large oil majors, service and supply companies and as a consultant in a variety of roles.
